Circulation between wells

Circulation between wells is is a method that is performed at locations with limited possibilities to discharge water and where multiple wells are being developed simultaneously. Normally this only occurs for thermal storage wells at locations where salty or brackish water is present.  This method can be considered as higher well development knowledge and cannot be performed by just anyone.

Infiltration during circulation between wells

During circulation between wells, the discharge water is infiltrated from one well into the other well. Part of the discharge water – filtered or unfiltered – can then be discharged into the surface water or sewage system.

To prevent clogging, the circulating water is first cleaned with filters before it is infiltrated into the return well. This well must have sufficient capacity to process the return water.

Development of the well

Circulation between wells does not hinder proper development of the well, but this method requires extensive experience, specialization, extra time and equipment. The work can only be carried out during the day when manned.
